Banana buns is another special recipe from Udupi or Karnataka cuisine and a popular street food and tea time snack recipe too. Perhaps, this recipe is one of the best way to use over ripe bananas and turn them into delicious tea time snack.
You can also make these buns with ripe yellow bananas, but the ones made with black skin bananas taste much better. These deep fried banana buns or puris are made using over ripe bananas, hence they are fluffy, semi sweet and usually served with spicy coconut coriander chutney and curries.
Did you know, the nutrient content of a banana changes as the banana becomes more ripe. However, the nutrient change isn't necessarily bad. Regardless of how ripe or unripe a fruit is, you still gain numerous benefits from it. For example, an overripe banana is packed with antioxidants and easy to digest. Hence it is also recommended for babies above 10 months. But yes…..due to high sugar levels it must be avoided by people suffering with diabetics.
These aromatic banana buns go well with almost all types of chutneys, pickles, curries and dry masala vegetables.
For a scrumptious breakfast serve these banana buns with spicy coconut coriander chutney, peanut coriander chutney or mango pickle.
Since these banana puris or buns taste slight sweet, hence they go very well with spicy gravy veggies and dry veggies like egg curry, kadala curry, lauki ke kofte and bhindi achaari. If you love more spicy flavors, then do not miss to team your meal with Rajasthani green chilly pickle.
Kids love to enjoy these semi sweet banana buns dipped in condensed milk.
