During summers when raw mangoes are so easily available in markets, how can we miss out on trying this easy and quick Raw mango rice recipe also known as ‘Mangai Sadam’ or ‘Mamidikaya Pulihora’. This recipe hails from Andhra cuisine and is very close to the South Indian style Lemon Rice, except the fact that in Lemon Rice you get to taste the ‘Tang’ from Lemons, whereas here it comes from seasonal raw or green mangoes.
This recipe is a pure comfort food when you want something home cooked, but don’t have the time to make elaborate preparations to cook a complete meal. The ingredients are very staple like raw mangoes and plain rice…keeping you at complete ease and the best part comes when you can make it under 10 minutes to relish any time of the day or pack in lunch box as well. It is so flavorful that I like to have it as it is, but usually people serve it with pickle and curd.
In North India raw mangoes or Kacche Aam are mostly used to make Mango Pickle, Aam Panna or Chutney. But we have some more recipes to utilize this wonderful seasonal fruit other ways as well. So you can try making Raw Mango Bhel Puri which I am sure everyone is going to love at your home. Besides, in Rajasthan they make an amazing curry known as Kairi Ki Sabzi that you must try out!
Raw mango rice goes great with garlic pickle and a bowl of plain curd or masala curd. You can also serve it along with Chaas or Punjabi Namkeen Lassi.
For school lunch box, pack raw mango rice with pomegranates or any seasonal fruits of choice.
