‘Khakhra’ is a typical Gujarati tea time snack made with whole wheat flour. It is savory, crisp and healthy as it is non fried and roasted on pan with less amount of oil. ‘Methi khakhra’ is another variety enhanced with aromatic dry fenugreek leaves and powdered spices which makes it an irresistible munching snack. These khakhras have a long shelf life. So, keep a batch ready in an air tight container as a ready to eat snack at home, office or while travelling. In Gujarat, Khakhras are served with pickles and chutneys along with tea.
While making 'Khakhra' you can be experimaental and add ingredients as per taste. So, as we have used methi leaves for that robust flavor & aroma, you might want to add mint leaves, spinach leaves, chopped soya leaves and also use carom seeds, carraway seeds, sesame or til, chilly flakes or pounded black pepper for an interesting twist to flavors.
Serve methi khakhra with tea or relish with garlic pickle, instant ginger pickle or the classic Rajasthani green chilly pickle…you’re going to love it!
